The Hair Guru

Following a complete brand revival, Matrix needed a loud, energetic & exciting way to deliver a large amount of paid media and programmatic content, and that is how The Hair Guru was born!! Created in tandem with their in-house creative team, we've produced over twenty individual spots. And there are even more to come!

(Challenge)

In a sea of influencer content and haircare ads, Matrix wanted to do something different — a piece of branded entertainment that poked fun at guru culture while still delivering real product education. The challenge was tone: how do you build a comedy character who’s over-the-top and self-absorbed… but still leaves viewers with actual takeaways about scalp health and hair repair?

We had to strike the right balance between parody and polish — and deliver a hero film, a trailer, and a series of cutdowns that could live across digital, social, and internal comms.

(Goal)

Create a scripted comedy short that positions Matrix as both in on the joke and serious about science. The Hair Guru needed to be absurd but lovable — a heightened version of the beauty influencer who spouts half-truths until they’re set straight by the real facts.

The goal was to build a modular asset system anchored by a sharp, self-aware script, elevated visuals, and a lead performance that could carry the entire concept — all while highlighting the benefits of innovative hair care and hair color products.

(Result)

We delivered a series of spots and modular assets built around the Hair Guru character — a velvet-robed, self-styled expert whose advice gets hilariously debunked with science-backed clarity. Our direction blended sleek beauty cinematography with comedic timing, giving the piece both visual legitimacy and comedic bite.

The content was deployed across Matrix internal, paid, and organic channels, and became a standout example of how educational content can be both smart and genuinely entertaining. The Hair Guru always knew what he was talking about and the campaign made sure the audience left knowing even more.
